Winter Sports Ryegrasses

This year has proven a great success for us in the grass market with strong demand for our new, top rated grass varieties of perennial ryegrass for use on football and rugby pitches. We are now in excellent position with new varieties such as Barzico, Barbasten, Barpersie joining our existing portfolio. The response to these varieties in the market has been very positive and we look to build on this in future years. The variety pipeline for this market is still flowing, with another new variety, Altivo, entering the BSPB Turfgrass Seed book in 2023.

Fine Leaf Ryegrass

The demands in the golf sector for high quality varieties of fine leaf perennial ryegrass continues to grow year on year. The introduction of Barolympic in 2015 has been a game changer in the market. With its exceptional fineness of leaf, pale colour, and rapid germination, it has proven a favourite with golf course managers the length and breadth of the UK. The introduction two years ago of Barprium has also been a great success and our strength in this market will be enhanced further with the introduction of Barpersie into this group.

Fescues

For the last 30 years we have been successfully marketing the slender creeping red fescue variety Barcrown. Barcrown has proved to be a remarkable variety, topping the turf grass seed tables for the last three decades. However, it has now been superseded and we are incredibly excited to see the new varieties Barnoustie and Barquess going into production and eventually into the hands of our customers.

Overall, the Barenbrug grass variety portfolio is looking incredibly strong and we're delighted to be bringing these new grass varieties to market in the UK. In the world where sustainability is becoming ever increasingly important, it is great for us to be able to say to turf managers that majorty of our amenity grass seed is grown right here in the UK.
