Agriculture has been a year of ups and downs. As we draw towards the end of this most challenging of years, we reflect on how farmers have fared. Not only did you have to cope with the long-term effects of the pandemic on business, families and their mental health, you also had to navigate extremes of weather and unseasonal temperatures and the ever changing understanding of The Transition.

The past year has, at least, taught us all to adapt and become more resilient. As the landmark Agriculture Bill moves farmers away from the Common Agricultural Policy and the Basic Payment Scheme, and directs it via a seven-year transition to new forms of support, these skills will stand them in good stead as people adjust to a new way of farming. Soaring fed and farm input prices are also prompting increased interest from farmers in homegrown, with multispecies swards, forage brassica and other crop such as maize and lucerne taking the top spots.

Barenbrug's agriculture team continue to grow to support the ever changing environment and welcome a a new dedicated Product Manager.

For turfgrass managers looking to replace lost grass cover, help is at hand.  Barenbrug grass breeders and research partners have been analysing and screening turfgrass performance under controlled drought conditions for many years.
